Prison Outreach
Even though some people have made serious mistakes in their life, there are many who have sought forgiveness, and who desire to follow Christ while living from within the prison system.
There is life in Christ behind those walls and bars, and there are many disciples who are spending their time influencing others for Christ. All of those who have asked for forgiveness & have become followers of Christ, are now brothers & sisters, and the walls & bars do not separate the family of God!
Matthew 25:35-40
For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’
We send a team into one of our local prisons every Sunday evening, and there are also other nights becoming available to us. We have other prisons calling to ask us to come into their facility to share the gospel as well.
Thanks to Joan, a translator in our church, we now have our teachings in both Spanish & English!
If God has put a desire in your heart to encourage those behind bars who seek Him, here are some ways to help in our Prison Outreach:
- Pray for the team that goes in to have service & teach each week
- Pray for the inmates to receive the message, and to have the power through the Holy Spirit to live an overcoming life
- Perhaps you would like to get involved with the ministry team that actually goes into the prisons. If so, you can talk with Pastor for more information.
I think the prison ministry could be summed up with the words of this song by Kutless called:
Strong Tower
When I wonder through the desert
And I’m longing for my home
All my dreams have gone astray
When I’m stranded in the valley
And I’m tired and all alone
It seems like I’ve lost my way
I go running to Your mountain
Where Your mercy sets me free
You are my strong tower
Shelter over me
Beautiful and mighty
Everlasting King
You are my strong tower
Fortress when I’m weak
Your name is true and holy
And Your face is all I seek
In the middle of my darkness
In the midst of all my fear
You’re my refuge and my hope
When the storm of life is raging
And the thunder’s all I hear
You speak softly to my soul
